About us

Welcome to Withyburn Croft

Were Glad you found us!

Our Croft, in the beautiful south end of Shetland, is more than just a place to rear animals. Its a part of our family's history.

For 6 Generations, my husbands family has called this corner of Shetland home. Come and explore our little haven, hear our families stories and make memories with us.

Each corner of our croft holds a piece of our families journey. whether your local or here visiting we cant wait to share it with you.

When a Somerset girl Meets a Shetland boy.

Our croft's name, Withyburn, comes from our small heard of Dexter cattle, which I brought to Shetland from Somerset in 2019.

This crofting venture is the coming together of two very different farming traditions and environments: from the lush fields and levels of somerset to the rugged hills and peat banks of Shetland.

Before moving up to Shetland, I had loads of different farming experiences. As a relief milker, I worked in different farming systems: from intensive farms to much smaller, traditional family farms.

I quickly realised that the smaller farming methods sat better with me.

On smaller farms, you get to know the animals so much better. this means you can quickly tell when something is wrong leading to much better animal welfare.

We want to pass these farming methods onto the next generation, as they've been passed onto us. And we'd like to share the story of our croft with you.
